Books I read in February
I’m kind of getting the hang of this? I probably should start including links to the books maybe.
A Prayer for the Crown-Shy, by Becky Chambers - 4/5

As with the first book in this series, I wish a little more happened. But the themes of what we owe to the world, and whether we’re allowed to want what we want, are beautiful. And Mosscap is such a fun little dude.
Legends and Lattes, by Travis Baldree - 4/5

The first book TikTok influenced me to read (more will be coming)! The tagline is a novel of high fantasy and low stakes, and it’s exactly what it says on the tin. It’s sweet, it’s cozy, it’s fun. (I’m enjoying this trend of cozy sci-fi and fantasy—I think all of us are a little burned out with living in a world that feels like constant life or death decisions.) An orc retires from adventuring to open a coffee shop, gathering a circle of quirky misfits around her who help her navigate the difficulties of running a small business.
Neon Gods, by Kate Robert - 5/5

I’m slightly embarrassed to admit that I read this and really loved it. I saw it on a booktok display in target, read the back copy and thought it sounded interesting. It’s based on the Hades and Persephone story, except instead of being gods the Olympians are… sort of more like crime lords? But there’s still some magic involved?
I knew it was going to be a romance, obviously, and I knew it was going to be spicy because of the “unspeakably hot” quote on the front cover. I didn’t know it was going to be explicit BDSM and exhibitionism. But you know, I didn’t even mind because the story was incredibly wholesome. I enjoyed the characters and the stories, and thought that the BDSM stuff was actually handled really well (meaning it’s a good representation of the community, unlike 50 Shades).
I’m looking forward to reading the next one in the series, which focuses on Eros and Psyche.
Re-reads
Bounced around between bedtime re-reads this month and took a while to settle on anythig, so I didn’t finish as many as usual.
- The Galaxy, and The Ground Within by Becky Chambers
