Turning the Corner

Turning the Corner

Turning the corner on my grief? Well, maybe - more about that later. But this isn’t a Grief Blanket update, it’s a Mandala Blanet update! And I did start working on the first corner of my mandala blanket. It’s a big relief, because the rounds were getting really long and tedious. Now I get to work in short rows and change stitches and colors often, and it’s reinvigorated my excitement for this blanket.

I have, by this point, completely screwed up the stitch count - I think I have about 12 more stitches than I’m supposed to - so I’m just hoping everything comes together in the end.

Jury’s out on whether my PUSH MCP brace is helping or hurting as far as crochet goes. It doesn’t really allow my thumb to have the flexibility it needs for crochet, but it does prevent it from bending too far. I usually end up taking it off because it’s uncomfortable. I think if I wear it most of the time, so I don’t sublux my thumb every time I pick up something that weighs more than a few ounces, then I can get away with not wearing it when I’m knitting or crocheting.

At any rate, it’s nice to. be enthusiastic about this blanket again. I’ve learned two things about myself from this blanket: 1) I really hate doing small pieces and sewing them together, so anything granny-square related is probably out for me and 2) I also don’t really love doing the same stitch for long periods of time. I think this is going to limit the projects I can do, but hey, we can all only do so many projects in our lifetimes anyway. Having them narrowed down for us to only the things that we’ll really enjoy can only be a good thing.

I do have my eye on many crochet patterns on Etsy so I need to get this one finished. Fortunately I have an enforced 6-week minimum vacation at home coming up, so hopefully I won’t be too doped up to crochet.
